United in mission, values, and community.
Emerging from the foundation of our shared mission, values, and drivers, our culture is one of belonging, trust, transparency, collaboration, creativity and innovation. We prioritize employee happiness, health, and wellbeing by embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion; wellness; and a commitment to continual learning into everything we do.
A Culture of Belonging
Biohabitats embraces diversity by committing to a culture of inclusivity and equity informed by a deeper understanding of systemic injustices. Our DEI and Interdisciplinary Internship Programs, and our support of industry DEI initiatives, help ensure that we honor this commitment.
Biohabitats DEI Program & Policy
Led by a dedicated group of team members in partnership with our People & Culture Team, the Biohabitats DEI Program is supported by a robust annual budget and built around six core commitments that address both internal operations and external industry goals that guide and measure progress through phased action.
We prioritize a diverse, equitable, and inclusive approach to our work, supporting our goals to protect biodiversity, adapt to climate change, and right environmental injustices.
DEI Core Commitments
Growing in a way that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
Establishing policies and practices to support a diverse team.
Ensuring wellbeing for all.
Fostering deeper relationships across communities.
Deepening our approach to inclusive engagement practices.
Expanding respectful relationships with indigenous communities.
Interdisciplinary Internship
Designed to provide people of color and women with the opportunity to explore career pathways in environmental consulting, our Interdisciplinary Internship Program prioritizes candidates who attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and Tribal Colleges and Universities. Our interns have included graduate and undergraduate students in programs such as environmental science and engineering, landscape architecture, planning, and economics. The program encourages interdisciplinary exploration and provides applied industry experience to prepare interns for hire upon completion.

What it Means to Be a Learning Organization
To us professional development isn’t about measuring performance. It’s about developing mastery in your chosen discipline, as well as a greater evolutionary purpose to learn, adapt, and grow. We prioritize the growth of our team members’ strengths, uniqueness, and capacity to self-reflect because we believe self-directed inquiry is the secret to mastery and is part of our collective health and resiliency as a community.
Self-Mastery
Our learning, development, and performance program is different from most organizations We simultaneously provide structure to monitor goals with the freedom to explore, grow, and even fail. We have designed a program that acts as a compass through common performance expectations and adaptable, interdisciplinary advancement pathways that guide growth in a meaningful way based. All of our program’s elements are created to promote self-management, wholeness, and a greater evolutionary purpose through:
- Self-directed, personal and professional development plans uniquely tailored to each individual.
- Mentorship, advocate partnership, and a network of support to achieve your professional and personal mastery goals.
- Performance expectations and materials that embody our mission and values and support self-directed inquiry.
- A constructive feedback cycle that promotes continuous growth, reflection, and authorship.
